NAMI Advocacy For Change

NAMI advocates to improve the lives of people affected by mental health conditions. From the U.S. Capitol to state legislatures to local city councils, the NAMI Alliance uses the power of lived experience to shape how our country helps people with mental illness.

NAMI Maryville Blount Advocacy

Tennessee NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) is urging the public to contact these senators to reinforce how much these facilities are needed for patients with mental illness whether they are insured by TNCare or Medicare. The hope is that this study will not only focus on the needs that health care providers recognize but will also include conversations with those suffering mental illness as well as their families who are greatly affected by the care that their loved ones receive. See below to learn how you can make a change!

Plan to join us for NAMI Tennessee Day on the Hill, set for Wednesday, March 26!

We will start the morning with breakfast and an Advocacy Training from
9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Following the training, advocates will be encouraged to meet with their legislators equipped with advocacy messages and tips for successful conversations. NAMI Tennessee will help with appointments for those attending.

Registering for Hill Day will add you to our list for the NAMI Tennessee Advocacy 101 Workshop, to be held virtually on Zoom, Friday, February 28, 2025, 1:00 p.m. CT.  More information and a link to the workshop will be shared in the coming weeks!

Taking Action: What You Can Do Now

  • Stay Informed – Legislative action and policies could shift quickly. We will provide updates as they happen.

  • Support Non-Government Funding Efforts – As we work to diversify funding, your advocacy and community connections are more important than ever. Contact us if you would like to donate or make a referral for a gift.

  • Engage Your Representatives and Legislators – Find your State Legislatorsor your district members of the U.S. Congress. Thank them for their past support and remind them that mental health must be a priority. Urge them to protect critical supports and services for Tennesseans.

Here in Tennessee, it is always a good time to get to know your legislators. If you have not already done so, make sure you are registered to vote. Then, email, mail, AND call your legislators to let them know who you are and what you care about—mental health.

Find Your Legislator & Contact Information

If you have a story to share, share your story with them. Thank them for their service. And let them know that you will be following their efforts and watching to listen and learn, to make sure that they embrace the issues that are important—policies that prioritize mental health, for you and your family and for our communities.

Thank you for standing with NAMI Tennessee!
