NAMI’s Second Book: “You Are Not Alone for Parents and Caregivers: The NAMI Guide to Navigating Your Child’s Mental Health’’

VOICE A Newsletter for Donors and Friends

FALL 2024 | Issue No. 77

Did you know that 17% of youth living in the United States, aged 6–17, experience a mental health condition each year?1 That’s nearly one out of every five U.S. youth! While recognizing that mental health conditions affect people of all ages and of all backgrounds, the needs of young people in addressing mental health concerns can differ greatly from the needs of adults. Seeking support and care for mental health is not a “one size fits all” process, and the unique experiences of young people deserve unique attention.

This focus on youth mental health is why we are beyond excited to celebrate the release of NAMI’s second book “You Are Not Alone for Parents and Caregivers: The NAMI Guide to Navigating Your Child’s Mental Health.” Written by Christine Crawford, MD MPH, child psychiatrist and NAMI’s Associate Medical Director, the book addresses the unique needs of young people who may be experiencing a mental health condition and those who care for them.

Drawing from her personal clinical experience; guidance from leading experts; and the lived experience of parents, caregivers, and young people across the country, Dr. Crawford provides a comprehensive, compassionate, and practical resource for anyone who may be concerned about a child’s mental health. Providing guidance, comfort, and support through its pages, “You Are Not Alone for Parents and Caregivers” hopes to leave readers with one important message: you are not alone.
